SharePoint 2013 comes in three main flavors: SharePoint Online in Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint Server 2013, and SharePoint Foundation:

 

SharePoint Server 2013 is the more feature-rich, on-premises version,

 

Office 365 includes a hosted version of SharePoint that differs slightly from the other versions. If you are using SharePoint Foundation or Office 365, you’ll find that the majority of my webSite is still applicable.

 

SharePoint Foundation is the platform that serves as the solid base for the server version. You can think of SharePoint Server as a superset of the functionality you’ll find within SharePoint Foundation
